Oral Pic 1

Picture #1: This scene depicts an old folks' home. The old folks are seated on wheelchairs in a semi circle, save for one elder sitting on a chair white a walking stick by his side, whilst the caretaker passes a big ball to the old folks. Therefore, the picture is depicting a typical day of leisure for these old folks. Perhaps too frail for the outdoors and inconvenient for the caretakers to supervise these old folks on wheelchairs, they are made to stay indoors. However, it is rather unwise to misjudge the purpose of tossing a beach ball around. For one, this can help to maintain the current condition of the old folks' eye-hand coordination. Secondly, this can help the old folks to foster relationships with the caretakers and the other old folks, whom share the same or similar conditions as each other. In an old folks home, the caretakers are supposed to help the old folks maintain a healthy state of mind and body. Through such activities, they are killing two birds with one stone as they can achieve both goals through one activity.

Conversation:
1. I have learnt from my grandfather's experience of World War 2. He has taught me many things like being resourceful, being flexible as well as pointers on being street smart.
- If I could do something special for him, I would ask my grandmother to teach me the simplest of my grandfather's favourite dishes, and make them for his birthday.

2.
- I feel that elderly people should live at home with their families, because there's nothing like the warmth of a family to bring joy to the elder's heart -nothing like the attention a doting family can give.
- I would include pictures of their generations, as well as items and music, to let them reminisces about the olden days.
- No, they should not be free of charge. If healthcare and nursing homes were free, it would make the nursing home an "attractive" place for the children to place their elders. By doing so would encourage more and more people to leave their elders in the nursing home, and if there is overpopulation, the staff would not be able to cater to the number of folks coming in. This could result in the nursing home being too overcrowded for the patients who really find it a necessity to place their elders in a nursing home.
